Taaffe to join Bulldogs as Gould continues rebuild

Phil Gould reckons his latest recruit will be allowed to “shine” in the NRL after Blake Taaffe confirmed his departure from South Sydney to Canterbury on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old was deputising for Latrell Mitchell at fullback at the Rabbitohs but Bulldogs football boss Gould indicated he would have a position of his own next season.

“Blake’s ability to cover multiple positions adds great value to our squad,” Gould said.

“He sits behind a number of highly talented players at the very strong South Sydney club, and he comes to the Bulldogs for an opportunity.

“We believe he’s ready to take his development to the next level here at the Bulldogs, where he’ll have more opportunities to shine in the NRL.”

Taaffe became the least experienced grand final player when he ran out for just his eighth first grade game in the 2021 decider.

He has played 27 NRL matches since debuting in that year.
