Aussies 3-148, rain halts play at SCG

Rob Forsaith |

Rain has halted play early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test at the SCG, where Australia have reached 3-148.

Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja resumed on six and four respectively on Thursday, aiming to compile an imposing total as Australia pursue a 4-0 series lead after retaining the urn in Melbourne.

Smith is unbeaten on 19 while Khawaja is 12 not out.

Khawaja was struck on the gloves by a rearing delivery from Jimmy Anderson but otherwise there were few moments of discomfort for the batters in the morning season.

The day’s first rain delay is expected to be brief, although further showers are forecast for the afternoon.

Wet weather meant only 46.5 overs of play was possible on Wednesday.
