Queensland Greens MP Amy MacMahon is in a serious condition in hospital after a two-car collision at a busy Brisbane intersection.

The crash occurred about 6.30pm on Monday when Dr MacMahon’s Toyota Prius was struck by a Hyundai i30 at the intersection of Baines St and Main St in Kangaroo Point.

Emergency responders transported 37-year-old Dr MacMahon to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

State Greens leader Michael Berkman said Dr MacMahon’s injuries were not life-threatening.

“We’re hopeful that she’ll make a full recovery,” he told ABC Radio.

“Anyone who’s seen photos of the accident will know it’s a very serious crash, so take nothing for granted at this point.”

Premier Steven Miles and Opposition Leader David Crisafulli have both offered well wishes to Dr MacMahon as she recovers in hospital.

“I know our hardworking doctors and nurses will look after her,” Mr Miles told parliament on Tuesday.

The other driver, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Queensland Police forensic crash unit is investigating.
