Congratulations on releasing your first single, Lying to Love! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind it?
Thank you! It’s so exciting for it to finally be out. I actually started writing the base idea of ‘Lying to Love’ a couple years ago, but since I hadn’t been in a relationship, I was running a bit short on inspiration. I had the chorus but that was it, so the song sat on the back burners until I actually knew what it meant to be lying to love. Fast forward to early last year, I was stuck in a relationship which I wanted to work out so badly but it just wasn’t right and I think deep down I knew that. Finishing ‘Lying to Love’ was really just me processing and navigating my feelings as well as admitting to myself that, no matter how hard I tried to convince myself, this person wasn’t the one.
How long have you been making music, and what first inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I have been writing song lyrics since I was 12, and finally in 2022 I had my first song fully produced. Music has always been a huge part of my life and being a singer has been my dream for as long as I can remember. My family have all sung together almost every night since I was born. I grew up writing poems and little songs for my parents. I used to love putting on ‘shows’ for friends to watch. Music always made sense and felt right to me, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
What are some of your musical influences and inspirations?
I have so many musical influences, because I think you can learn from everybody, but to name a few; I love Christina Aguilera’s and Rihanna’s music, emotion and raw talent. It’s something I have always aspired to and drawn inspiration from. Lyrically, I look up to artists like Taylor Swift and Sia. I also love Lady Gaga and The Weeknd for their strong artistic direction and passion for the creativity of being a musician.
If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate on a song with Billie Eilish and Finneas. They are such talented, innovative people and I think it would be interesting to hear how Billie’s voice blends with my own.
Do you have any upcoming performances or gigs that your fans should know about?
On the weekends I love connecting with the community at local markets like the Petrie and Bite Markets. I will also be performing at the Moreton Bay Anywhere Festival on the 19th of May. Finally, what can we expect from you in the future? Any plans for an album or EP release?
I am hoping to do an EP by 2025, but in the meantime I will be consistently releasing singles to see what sticks with my audience and also to experiment with what I want my sound to be for my first big project like an album.
