Magpies likely to hold De Goey as Pendlebury departs

The door has been left ajar for Collingwood to trade away Jordan De Goey as the Magpies wave goodbye to club legend Scott Pendlebury.
Collingwood have been busy in the early stages of the AFL trade period, bringing in delisted GWS forward Jesse Hogan for pick No.75 in the draft after already landing dual Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale as a free agent.
The Magpies also traded 38-year-old Pendlebury to Gold Coast for pick No.65, with the Suns wanting to avoid diluting any free agent compensation it would yield for letting Ben King walk to Hawthorn.
With those deals locked in, Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch indicated a move for midfield-forward De Goey was unlikely with a year to run on his contract.

“Jordy’s goals are to make sure he gets that last contract, whether that be at the Collingwood Football Club or somewhere else,” Leppitsch told reporters on Monday.
“If it doesn’t happen now, he’ll play on next year and he may or may not finish his career with us.
“I spoke to him Friday night about it at the best and fairest … at this point in time, we don’t think anything happens.”

Collingwood are yet to discuss a new contract with De Goey’s camp but didn’t rule out extending the 30-year-old before round one next season.
Leppitsch also expects defender Dan Houston to be at the club in 2027, declaring speculation about his future was being driven by an “external source”.
A two-time All Australian, Houston has four years left on his contract after crossing from Port Adelaide in 2024 as part of a three-team mega trade.
Collingwood have had early discussions with Richmond on contracted two-time premiership player Jayden Short, but Leppitsch indicated a potential deal was a “still a bit far off”.
“Jayden’s probably going to be probably a little tougher,” he said, citing list spots, salary expectations and Richmond’s asking price.
