Just get it right: Ryles launches at bunker blooper

Jason Ryles has launched at the NRL’s bunker after Parramatta’s loss to the Dolphins, pleading for improvements before it costs a team a grand final.
After a 34-16 loss on Friday in Brisbane, the Eels coach admitted his side were no match for the finals-bound Dolphins.
But he couldn’t help but deliver a drive-by of the league’s review technology, furious with a decision to overturn the initial no-try call on Dolphins winger Jamayne Isaako.
Initially it appeared Eels defender Sean Russell had done enough to dislodge the ball as Isaako spun and searched for a grounding.
But the no-try ruling was overturned after officials deemed there was enough evidence to prove the prolific Dolphins winger had maintained possession until planting the ball.
That wasn’t how Ryles saw it, though.
“I don’t go anywhere near the refs; they have a tough job, but one thing I will say is that the bunker’s got more technology than they had getting to the moon and they still stuff it up,” he said.
“I don’t have anything good to say about it, I’ll leave it at that.”
But Ryles, who admitted he found that adjudication “very” confusing, continued.
“Just get it right,” he said.
“It went up no try. And how they turned it over … did it have an influence on the game?
“No, it didn’t, but that’s going to decide a grand final. Let’s be honest.”
In 13th place and out of the finals race, Ryles said his developing squad would have learnt plenty against an outfit on track to finish in the top four.
“Fight and effort only gets you so far and we hung in for a long period,” he said.
“They’re a well put together, physical, mature footy team and we’ve got a heap of kids out there at the moment learning their trade.”
