Deja vu claims Temple in record-breaking Games final

Matthew Temple has suffered a bad case of deja vu, again losing to Canadian star Josh Liendo in a record-breaking 100m butterfly final at the Commonwealth Games.
Liendo beat the Australian by one one-hundredth of a second early on Monday morning (AEST) in the third finals session at the Glasgow pool.
The Olympic silver medallist clocked 50.42 seconds while Temple touched the wall in 50.43, going under the Game record of 50.63 that the Australian had set on day two in the semi-finals.
Liendo also won gold in the 100m butterfly four years ago at the Birmingham Games and Temple dead-heated for silver with English swimmer James Guy.
It is Temple’s second medal in Glasgow, after he swum in the heats of the 4x100m freestyle relay and his teammates went on to win the final.
Tim Hodge, Australia’s baton bearer at the Games opening ceremony, started the day-three evening session by winning gold in the men’s 100m backstroke S9.
It is Hodge’s second gold in three Commonwealth Games and compatriot Harrison Vig won bronze.
The other para-swimming final on day three yielded medals to Australians Gemma Sellick (silver) and Victoria Belando Nicholson (bronze), as England’s Alice Tai won the women’s 100m backstroke S9.
As in the morning session, one of the biggest cheers of the night was for Antwahn Boyce-Vaughan in the S9 backstroke final.
After Hodge won the final in one minute 3.00 seconds, Boyce-Vaughan touched the wall in 2:07.22 amid massive support from the fans.
Sierra Toohey, aged 17, won her first Commonwealth Games medal on debut, claiming bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
Toohey delighted the crowd in the day-two heats when she dived back into the pool to retrieve one of her swam caps that had come off and gone to the bottom.
