Perth have axed import Mason Jones following a shock home loss against NBL battlers Brisbane.

After being upset by the Bullets 110-93 in the Ignite Cup match on Wednesday night, the Wildcats reacted by cutting their American guard five games into the season.

Despite Perth slipping to 3-2, Jones had produced his best performance of the season in the disappointing loss.

The Wildcats signed Jones following the bombshell move of five-time NBL MVP Bryce Cotton to Adelaide.

Jones impressed immediately by making seven three-pointers in a pre-season game, but has failed to fire since.

The guard averaged 9.5 points, 2.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds while shooting the ball at 30 per cent from the field.

“Mason has been a dedicated professional during his time in Perth and handled himself with great character,” Wildcats basketball boss Danny Mills said.

“We thank him for his efforts and wish him every success in the future.”

Perth hit the road for games against Sydney and Cairns without a replacement for Jones.
