Ugle-Hagan thanks Bulldogs after trade to Suns

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has expressed regret for how his time at the Western Bulldogs ended after the former No.1 pick officially moved to Gold Coast.
The Bulldogs received pick 74 in return for moving on the talented forward, who was contracted for next year.
Ugle-Hagan’s career is at the crossroads after dealing with serious off-field challenges for more than a year.
The 23-year-old failed to play a game at any level this year as he spent periods completely away from the club.
The future of Ugle-Hagan was a constant distraction for the Bulldogs, with coach Luke Beveridge having to address the situation almost weekly.
After his trade to the Suns was processed, Ugle-Hagan released a statement on social media, saying only “good things to come from here”.
“Though it didn’t end the way I would have liked, I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the Doggies,” he wrote on Instagram.
“My time at the Kennel has come with its share of lows – there’s no denying that – but the memories and friendships I’ve made will stay with me for life.
“From a shy 15-year-old who moved to Melbourne, the Doggies took me in and gave me a family and a home.
“For that, they’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
“Part of me wishes things had ended differently, but I leave proud to have worn the red, white and blue.
“Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, and staff who’ve been part of my journey – I’m forever grateful.”
Ugle-Hagan kicked 103 goals from 67 games for the Bulldogs after debuting in 2021.
He last played in the 2024 elimination final, a game the Bulldogs considered pulling him out of not long before it started.
But Ugle-Hagan’s upside remains enormous and he could fit into a forward line with Ben King at the Suns.
“We’re looking forward to giving Jamarra a second chance,” Suns list boss Craig Cameron said.
“We’ve committed to him. He needs now to commit to the program and give himself every chance to continue his footy.”
Cameron is hoping living with former Suns stalwart Jarrod Harbrow will benefit the Indigenous talent greatly.
“We’ve got a few things in place for him to try and get him back to condition so he can actually complete a full pre-season.
“We’re excited to have him on board, but it’s also up to Jamarra now to take the opportunity that we’ve given him.”
The Bulldogs wished Ugle-Hagan well, but finished off their statement in interesting fashion.
“Today’s trade means the Bulldogs’ contractual relationship with Ugle-Hagan ends and no ongoing obligations exist,” the statement read.
