An Ash Riddell-led North Melbourne have outclassed Carlton with a 53-point thrashing to extend their AFLW winning streak to 18 games.

The Blues were no match for the defending premiers, who picked up at Arden Street Oval where they left off against Brisbane last weekend to claim a 12.7 (79) to 4.2 (26) win on Saturday.

Ash Riddell kicked the opening goal and finished with 43 disposals and eight clearances, well-supported as usual by Jasmine Garner (two goals, 29 disposals, four clearances).

So dominant were the league leaders that they took 55 inside-50 entries to 21 and finished with 89 more uncontested possessions than the Blues.

North Melbourne’s 18-match winning run dates back to round three last year.

The longest winning streak in VFL/AFL history is Geeong’s 23-game run across 1952 and 1953.

Meanwhile, finals hopeful Carlton’s three-game winning streak ends.

Mimi Hill was the lone shining light for the Blues, finishing with 24 touches and five clearances.

Carlton went into quarter-time with just one point, trailing by 13 as they struggled to match it with the reigning premiers.

The Kangaroos broke out to a 24-point lead in the second term before the Blues finally snared a major through teenager Poppy Scholz.

A goal from Tess Craven before halftime restored lost ground for the hosts.

North Melbourne’s ascendancy continued well into the second half as Carlton failed to find answers in defence.

The Blues had given away two goals to Jenna Bruton and Garner when five consecutive defensive-50 chains were intercepted in the third quarter.

Tara Bohanna came to life with two goals for Carlton in the final quarter but it was too late.
