More Panthers woe with Sorensen facing 2-game ban

Penrith’s gloom at being condemned to the bottom of the NRL ladder has been compounded with Scott Sorensen now facing a two-match ban.
The four-time and defending premiers’ 26-10 defeat by Manly on Saturday night left them reeling with a 2-6 season record and sitting stone last.
On Sunday, the match video review panel added to that pain by citing Sorensen with a grade-two shoulder charge on Sea Eagles forward Nathan Brown.
Sorensen and Manly forward Siua Taukeiaho were both sin-binned for shoulder charges during the match, as the NRL continues to police dangerous shots strictly.
Sorensen risks missing three matches if he unsuccessfully contests his charge.
Taukieaho’s effort was deemed grade one and he has escaped with a fine.
The Panthers’ judiciary issues could have been even worse, with Sorensen’s teammates Dylan Edwards (tripping on Tommy Talau) and Casey McLean (careless high tackle on Tom Trbojevic) escaping with fines.
Gold Coast’s Jaimin Jolliffe is also facing a two-match ban after being charged with a grade 2 careless tackle on John Bateman as the Titans were thrashed 50-18 by North Queensland.
