A man has been shot dead by police after brandishing a weapon at officers in Queensland’s north.
The man was shot by officers on Greenhill Rd in Ilbilbie, a small town about 75km south of Mackay, about 11am on Monday.
He died at the scene.
Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said police were carrying out a targeted drug operation at the location.
Officers were approaching the man about the drug operation when he drew a weapon, leading to police shooting him, Ms Carroll said.
“Their life was threatened,” Ms Carroll said.
Officers remain at the scene.
Queensland Ambulance said paramedics attended the scene.
