Schache sub for Demons’ AFL semi-final against Carlton

Melbourne have pulled a surprise move for their do-or-die AFL semi-final against Carlton by naming Josh Schache as their substitute.
Schache, who has played just two senior games this season, was picked ahead of fellow tall Brodie Grundy.
Former Collingwood star Grundy appears destined to move to his third club during the upcoming trade period after falling out of favour at Melbourne.
Max Gawn will shoulder the Demons’ ruck load against Blues duo Marc Pittonet and Tom De Koning on Friday night at the MCG despite concerns over a toe injury.
Schache was in Melbourne’s starting 22 in the round-seven win over North Melbourne but has since made just one brief appearance at senior level, as the sub against Hawthorn in round 23.
Carlton named Oliver Hollands as their substitute.
There are no late changes from the selected sides, with Adam Tomlinson, James Jordon and Charlie Spargo all in for Melbourne.
Angus Brayshaw (concussion), Jacob van Rooyen (suspended) and Michael Hibberd (omitted) are out of the side that lost last week’s qualifying final against Collingwood.
Carlton recalled Matthew Kennedy and promoted Jesse Motlop to the starting 22.
They lost Harry McKay (concussion) and Jack Martin (suspension) after last week’s elimination final win over Sydney.
