Waters on pole for second Townsville Supercars race

Cam Waters has claimed pole position for the weekend’s second 250km, 88-lap Supercars race in Townsville.
Tickford’s Waters was the second-to-last car out in Sunday’s top-10 shootout and clocked a 1:14.418 flying lap to secure his second pole of the season with Jack Le Brocq second fastest and Thomas Randle third.
Provisional pole-sitter Brodie Kostecki could only manage fourth, while teammate and current championship leader Will Brown will start ninth.
Randle was the big climber in Sunday’s action as he participated in his first top-10 shootout of the year.
David Reynolds rounded out the top five ahead of the Shell V-Power drivers Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale.
But there was no luck for Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen or Saturday’s race runner-up Broc Feeney, who missed the top 10 altogether.
Less than a week after winning his first-ever NASCAR race in Chicago, van Gisbergen will start at the back of the grid in his 500th career race after locking up his tyres on his first qualifying flying lap.
Feeney will start 13th.
Race 17 of the season at Reid Park is scheduled for 2.40pm (AEST).
