Saints’ King hurts shoulder, subbed out of Demons clash

St Kilda spearhead Max King has re-injured his troublesome left shoulder in what could be a huge blow to his side’s AFL finals chances.

King, who missed the opening nine rounds of the season after having the same shoulder reconstructed in December, was hurt during the opening seconds of the Saints’ clash with Melbourne on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old attempted to spoil opponent Steven May’s marking attempt and was left in immediate pain, walking directly off the ground under attention from medical staff.

King was taken to the change room for further assessment and substituted out of the game within minutes, replaced by Ryan Byrnes.

The blows kept coming for St Kilda in the fourth-versus-fifth clash at Marvel Stadium.

They also lost Seb Ross to a right hamstring injury before quarter-time and Zaine Cordy to concussion during the second term.
