NSW PLAYER RATINGS FROM ORIGIN II
1 James Tedesco – 6
NSW’s captain led his team in run metres and was solid in kick returns. A lack of cohesion in attack didn’t provide Tedesco with many opportunities.
2 Brian To’o – 5
The Penrith flyer had two tackle breaks and 143 run metres but the majority of which came outside of his own half.
3 Stephen Crichton – 6
Crichton had NSW’s best chance of the first half and was chased down by a desperate Daly Cherry-Evans. Had an enticing duel on the right edge with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.
4 Tom Trbojevic – 1
A tough night for Trbojevic. Gave away a penalty on the Blues’ first defensive set then departed the field with a pectoral injury.
5 Josh Addo-Carr – 4
When Trbojevic went down, so did the cohesion of NSW’s right edge. A quiet night for Addo-Carr who struggled to link with impromptu centre Damien Cook. Sin-binned for striking in the final minute.
6 Jarome Luai – 7.5
Luai had four tackle breaks in the first half and attacked the line with vigour. One of only a few Blues players that gave Queensland real headaches in defence.
7 Mitchell Moses – 6.5
Moses was lively and attacked both edges with no hesitation in the opening 40 minutes. Had some enterprising play to begin the second half then was kept relatively quiet.
8 Junior Paulo – 5
The Blues’ battering ram put in a tough shift in the middle and made eight runs for 61 metres.
17 Reece Robson – 6
Started at hooker on debut. Good service out of dummy-half and made a team-high 46 tackles. The occasion didn’t get the better of Robson.
10 Payne Haas – 8
The best Blue on field. Haas was immense and had 113 first-half run metres from 15 carries, while making 26 tackles. Finished the game the leading metre-eater.
11 Tyson Frizell – 5
Only four runs and 34 metres for Frizell. The NSW veteran was tenacious defensively in a brutal contest.
12 Hudson Young – 6
Canberra’s hit-man did his best to get under the Maroons’ skin and sparked the Blues in defence. Young finished with four tackle breaks.
13 Isaah Yeo – 7
Yeo can hold his head high in a losing team after delivering another strong 80-minute performance backed by his defence and link-play in the middle. Yeo had 46 tackles and only missed one.
14 Stefano Utoikamanu – 4
Only saw 14 minutes of action off the bench but still managed 48 metres from his six carries.
15 Cameron Murray – 5
Had to wait till the second half to make his mark on the contest. Murray wore some tough hits but put some on himself.
16 Liam Martin – 5.5
Martin was ferocious off the bench with his defence and played a similar role to game one. Martin had two tackle breaks with his 75 run metres.
9 Damien Cook – 5.5
Found himself playing in the centres and had some darting runs. Struggled to link with Addo-Carr. Scored NSW’s only try from broken play.
