Vondrousova, Sabalenka through in Adelaide

Aryna Sabalenka has withstood Liudmila Samsonova’s best to book a quarter-final berth at the Adelaide International 1.

The second seed and hard-hitting world No.5 was down a double break in the first set but won 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-3) in two hours, 15 minutes.

The Belarusian will next face Marketa Vondrousova, who was the first woman into the final eight after cruising past Kaia Kanepi.

The 2019 French Open finalist won 6-0 6-4 on Wednesday morning.

The 23-year-old Czech talent is returning from wrist surgery and began her year with a comeback first-round defeat of No.8 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Bianca Andreescu will play Veronika Kudermetova later on Wednesday and Marta Kostyuk meets Elena Rybakina.
