Scott’s party hole highlight on tough day

Adam Scott made just one birdie in the second round but it was an Australian PGA Championship marketer’s dream that just might spark his weekend.

The 2013 Masters champion was the round-one pacesetter but carded a one-over 72 to finish four under and six strokes behind leader Jason Scrivener.

He signed his card with a smile though after a 15-metre birdie putt on the heaving 17th party hole that came with a celebration to rival his efforts after an historic win at Augusta nine years ago.

“It sums up golf, I think; I didn’t sniff anything all day, nothing was good and I find my element in (front of) a bunch of drunk Queenslanders. It’s all good fun,” he said of the putt in front of packed stands featuring a DJ and adjoining beer garden that makes a mockery of traditional golfing etiquette.

“They were all fist pumping and flinging things around their head, so I thought I’d entertain them a bit more.

“But honestly, it was nice something went in and it salvaged one shot for the round.

“It was a tough day (but) just to get one and start out tomorrow one better is a good feeling.

“I’m going to have to really shoot the lights out on the weekend and play good, which I know I can. Just yesterday I played good.”
