Redmayne return a boost for Heat in WBBL

Brisbane Heat’s lynchpin opening batter Georgia Redmayne says she is on track to return from a hamstring injury in the WBBL elimination semi-final against Hobart Hurricanes in Adelaide.

Redmayne, a qualified medical doctor, was the competition’s leading run scorer when she sustained the injury against Perth on November 9.

The 28-year-old’s absence for the past four games has been a blow to Brisbane who managed to win just once in her absence.

Her likely return in Wednesday’s sudden-death clash will be a boost after she scored 333 runs in the opening 10 games of the season

Redmayne had a chuckle when asked what it was like for a doctor to be assessing their own injury situation.

“I think I am more of a pest than anything else,” she told AAP.

“Immediately after I retired hurt in that game against Perth I took my pads off and said ‘alright, when am I going back on?’ I think everyone has to keep me in check. I take care of others well, but less so myself.

“Each game I have been somewhat joking with the physio to let me get back at it but luckily she is a lot more responsible than I am in terms of my hamstring management because I am very keen to get back.

“I’ve been doing a lot of rehab working closely with the physio and I am very, very confident I should be back for that Hurricanes game. I’ve just got a few things to tick off at training (on Tuesday). I’m very keen to play.”

Redmayne is a stylish left-hander with a smart cricket brain who can anchor an innings and up the ante when needed.

She is a perfect foil for the flamboyant right-handers at the top of the Heat order such as Danni Wyatt, Grace Harris and Georgia Voll.

Redmayne remains confident the Heat can win three sudden-death games on the trot to take the title.

“I am a bit of a stats girl and have been going through a bit of WBBL history,” she said.

“The last time the Sydney Sixers topped the table the Brisbane Heat won from third place so I am hoping we can repeat that. 

“The format has changed a little bit since WBBL 04 but the fact that we get the opportunity to play three matches hopefully gives us some momentum.”
