Ankle surgery for Port AFL forward Dixon

Port Adelaide’s miserable start to the AFL season has been compounded by an injury setback to key forward Charlie Dixon.

The 31-year-old is yet to play in 2022 after having ankle surgery in February but has now had another operation.

Dixon, who topped Port’s goalkicking with 48 last year, was close to returning to playing last week but reported soreness in his ankle after a training session.

Scans revealed some bone bruising and Dixon was booked in for surgery.

The former Gold Coast player will not be able to commence training for another month, meaning he is unlikely to play until the second half of the season.

The Power, who have started the season 0-3 coming off consecutive preliminary final appearances, are without triple club champion Robbie Gray and All-Australian defender Aliir Aliir.
