Qld policeman faces court on drug charges

A police officer who played for the North Queensland Cowboys Under-20s team has faced court on drug charges.

Cody Jace Maughan appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with supplying and possessing dangerous drugs.

The 25-year-old was in the Cowboys National Youth Competition system from 2015 to 2017, making his debut against the Warriors in New Zealand, according to the Cowboys website.

Maughan was also named in the Queensland Police Service side due to play their NSW counterparts in the curtain raiser to State of Origin Game II at Suncorp Stadium last year.

The constable did his first year in the Queensland Police in Ingham before moving to Brisbane, working at South Bank police station.

Maughan was suspended from duty after last month being given a notice to appear in court.

He is charged with two counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

Maughan is expected to appear again in the same court on May 16.
