The Perth Lynx and Townsville Fire have both registered back to back wins to maintain pressure on WNBL leaders Adelaide in round eight.

Led by captain Darcee Garbin’s 24 points, the Lynx began the round by hammering the UC Capitals 102-73 in Ballarat on Wednesday night.

Perth then backed up when they travelled to Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday, holding out hosts Sydney Uni Flames 86-81 in a gutsy display.

Marina Mabrey led the way on Sunday with 34 points, five rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes, icing the result with a three pointer in the final 30 seconds.

“We kind of just like hit the gas a little bit. We were kind of cruising in the first half so just coming out playing a little bit harder (proved the difference),” Mabrey said after the Lynx improved to a 4-2 record.

Adelaide Lightning (4-1 record) are the still the team to beat after they overwhelmed the Flames 77-52 on Thursday night with Steph Talbot nabbing 19 points, nine boards and seven assists.

But they will be looking over the shoulder at Perth and Townsville, who also moved to a 4-2 record with a perfect round.

The Fire held out the Bendigo Spirit (1-5 record) 77-67 on Friday before backing up to pip the Boomers (6-3) 68-66 24 hours later thanks to Lauren Nicholson’s 22 points and Zitina Aokuso (17 pts, seven boards).

Meanwhile, the UC Capitals (4-3) on Sunday thumped the Bendigo Spirit in Canberra 94-60.
