Barty pulls out of Sydney Tennis Classic

World No.1 Ash Barty has pulled out of the Sydney Tennis Classic to head straight to Melbourne and focus on her preparation for the Australian Open.

Barty claimed the Adelaide International for the second time in three years with an emphatic 6-3 6-2 win over 14th-ranked Elena Rybakina in Sunday’s final.

Instead of subsequently travelling to Sydney, Barty, whose best result at the Australian Open was reaching the semi-final in 2020, will now head directly to Melbourne.
