A teenager has been accused of hate crimes after allegedly abusing and threatening a family in the early hours of the morning.

The 19-year-old man has been charged following the alleged “hate-motivated” incident in Brisbane’s inner-east.

He made a number of abusive remarks and threats towards a family at a Morningside residence about 12.30am on Monday, police said.

The teenager was arrested “without incident” with assistance from the police tactical unit Public Safety Response Team in Brisbane’s inner-north on Tuesday.

“Detectives from the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group have charged a man following an investigation into alleged hate-motivated threats in Morningside on October 19,” a police statement said.

He was charged with three counts of threats, serious vilification or hate crime.

“Queensland Police take allegations of hate-motivated offending seriously and remain committed to protecting the safety, dignity and rights of all members of the community,” a police statement said.

The teen was refused bail and was due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
