Fowl play ruled out as Bracken Ridge police rescue runaway chicken

A Brisbane community youth event took an unexpected turn when local police officers were forced to halt their operations to rescue a runaway chicken from high speed traffic. Officers from the Gateway District Crime Prevention Unit and Boondall Police Station were hosting a youth engagement barbecue at a Bracken Ridge skatepark when they spotted the stray pet wandering dangerously close to the road.

Senior Constable Diana Kratochvil managed to safely capture the feathered fugitive and transported it to the nearby Animal Welfare League Queensland Warra Animal Shelter for a welfare check. The incident quickly inspired the police team to give back to the organisation that stepped in to help. After learning that the shelter was facing a shortage of supplies, Sergeant Jodie Murray suggested a donation drive to support their ongoing animal care efforts.

The station rallied together and collected a substantial haul of much-needed items, including pet food, toys and daily essentials, which they delivered directly to the shelter staff. Beyond the successful donation drive, the rescue served as an impromptu teaching moment for the local youth at the barbecue, demonstrating the importance of animal welfare and community responsibility.

The rescued chicken has since been cleared by the shelter, put up for adoption and successfully placed into a loving new home. While police have officially ruled out fowl play, tongue in cheek investigations into exactly why the chicken crossed the road remain ongoing.
