A Queensland woman has been sentenced to eight years in jail over the sexual abuse of her daughter and for producing and transmitting child abuse material.
The 23-year-old woman was sentenced in the Brisbane District Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to 21 child abuse-related offences in February.
A man in the US state of Ohio was jailed for 10 years in connection to the crimes.
The woman had been investigated by the Brisbane Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team in 2022 after a tip-off from the United States’ National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
The US centre had identified a user transmitting child abuse material on social media platform Snapchat.
A search warrant was executed at a Marsden home, south of Brisbane, in April 2022 where a phone was found with child abuse material.
The woman was arrested at the address and her daughter removed by authorities, Australian Federal Police said.
She faced charges of rape, indecent treatment of a child under 16, making child exploitation material, using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material and possessing child abuse material through a carriage service.
Examinations of the woman’s mobile phone found evidence of further abuse being planned with a US man in the state of Ohio.
US officials prosecuted and convicted the man of one count of possession of child abuse material and one count of distribution of child abuse material.
He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Queensland woman has a non-parole period of two years and eight months.
