Murder charges for two men over money dispute

Fraser Barton |

Murders charges have been laid against two men after an assault left a 41-year-old man dead.

About 2am on Sunday the 41-year-old was allegedly punched then subsequently attacked on the ground by the men, aged 24 and 21 in Gympie, north of Brisbane.

Members of the public rendered first-aid to the man before he was flown to Sunshine Coast Hospital by authorities.

The 41-year-old died from his injuries on Monday.

Early investigations by police allege the three men are all known to each other and the dispute is money related.

“Investigations to date has established that there is a dispute over the monies owed,” Detective Inspector Wade Lee said on Monday.

“This is an isolated event that is a bunch of parties known to each other.”

The two men were initially charged with grievous bodily harm but had their charges upgraded to murder in the Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday.

Both have been remanded in custody and will appear in the same court at a later date.
