Six people, including five children, are unaccounted for after a fire broke out in a home and spread to multiple properties in southeast Queensland.

It’s believed the blaze started in a home in Russell Island just after 6am on Sunday.

Queensland Police say initial investigations indicate six people are unaccounted for, including five children and a man, who are residents at the property.

Queensland Ambulance Service says they’ve treated nine people at the scene, including neighbours, and two people have been transported to Redlands Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire investigators are waiting for the area to be declared safe before examining the scene.
