Man to face weapons, drugs, gun charges after break-ins

A man has been slapped with multiple theft, drugs and weapons charges after burglaries at two homes in Queensland’s north.
The 26-year-old was stopped behind the wheel of a Holden ute allegedly carrying fake number plates, in a shopping centre at South Mackay on Thursday.
When officers approached and asked him to turn the engine off, he allegedly reversed into their patrol car but they were able to prevent the man driving away and arrested him.
Police say a search of the vehicle found seven firearms taken from houses in South Mackay and Sarina, along with a quantity of ammunition and dangerous drugs.
Police say the Sarina residence was broken into and three guns were removed from a secured safe in June.
A safe containing firearms was also forcibly removed during a break-in at a South Mackay home on July 17.
The man has been charged with two counts each of break and enter, possession of weapons and receiving firearms, along with three counts of drug possession for methylamphetamine, Diazepam and cannabis.
He is also accused of assault occasioning bodily harm and possessing ammunition and tainted property in the form of cash, registration plates and suspected stolen tools.
He will reappear in Mackay Magistrates Court on August 16.
