Man dies after boat hits Sunshine Coast bridge pylon

A man has died after his small boat crashed into a bridge pylon at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast overnight.

Police say the man aged in his sixties sustained critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene despite emergency crew efforts to save him.

The crash happened around 12.25am on Sunday at the Brisbane Road bridge.

Water police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
