A police officer has allegedly been slashed with a machete while arresting a man following a break-in south of Brisbane.

Police allegedly chased the man after seeing him on the patio of a home in Woodridge on Thursday afternoon after they responded to reports of a break-and-enter.

When police tried to grab the man, he allegedly turned and swung a machete that was stolen from the property, which struck an officer’s hand.

The man was arrested and police say the senior constable was taken to hospital with a cut to his finger.

The Murrarie man, 29, was refused bail and will face Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday on charges including serious assault of a police officer and grievous bodily harm.
