Ibis shot dead with arrow sparks cruelty probe in Qld

Queensland Police and the RSPCA have launched an investigation after an Ibis was shot dead with an arrow north of Brisbane.
Officers were alerted around 11.45am on Thursday when a resident on Prince Street, Brighton, brought the bird into their home and comforted the animal before it died.
The ibis was found with a 80cm ‘target’ style arrow lodged in it, police say, and they believe it was shot from nearby parklands or wetlands.
It was targeted whilst on the ground foraging in the area.
Officer in charge Kenneth Rogers says the incident is particularly disturbing for the Brighton community.
“‘Cruelty to animals is a punishable offence and along with the RSPCA, we will investigate this matter fully,” he said.
“I’d encourage nearby residents along Prince, Princess, Bayview and Shepherd Streets to come forward with relevant CCTV or dashcam between 9am-12pm yesterday.
“I want to thank the resident for raising the alarm and providing the bird with comfort and safety after this horrendous and cowardly attack.”
