A man has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly running a red light during a police chase and hitting and injuring a 12-year-old boy crossing the street.
Police say the incident happened at Macgregor in southern Brisbane at about midday on Thursday after the 24-year-old driver failed to stop for police.
“The vehicle allegedly continued through a red light at the intersection of Main Road and Cosmic Street and struck a 12-year-old boy who suffered minor head injuries,” police said in a statement on Friday.
The boy remains in a stable condition at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
Police said the driver fled the scene but was later arrested at a Woodridge residence.
He has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle and fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.
He is to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.
A 19-year-old man who was also arrested at Woodridge has been released without charge.
