A search of thick bushland in the Sunshine Coast hinterland has failed to find a man missing from Nambour for a week.

Police say they will scale back the search and focus efforts on other lines of inquiry to locate Tarci Carey, 22, who was last seen leaving an address in Meditation Court, Nambour, about 4am on Friday August 5.

He has not made contact with anyone since.

Mr Carey was driving a silver Mitsubishi with Queensland registration 438CK2. The car was found abandoned on a 4WD track in the Brooloo State Forest area on Monday August 8.

An extensive land and water search has continued this week, including police, the SES, and aircraft.

Police said Mr Carey had attended a service station at Forrest Glen at about two hours before he disappeared. Anyone who may have seen him there, or who has information on his whereabouts, is urged to contact police.
