Next stage of Bruce Highway replacement revealed for public comment

The Queensland Government has released details of the next stage of a new road between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Transport and Main Roads has been developing a proposed new route west of the notoriously congested Bruce Highway that currently links the two centres.

It will run from Joyner to Beerburrum and Steve Irwin Way. Stage one has already been identified, from Moodlu to Moorina.

Now, two options for stage two have been released for public comment. It’s about 15 kilometres long and would run west of the growing communities of Kinma Valley and Morayfield South.

The member for Kurwongbah, Shane King, said the ultimate goal is to eliminate the need to use the existing Bruce Highway.

“Not only will this see locals get home safer and sooner, but it will also reduce congestion on the Bruce Highway for those passing through.

“Now we want to hear from you formally about what will work best for our community, to help determine which route progresses for more detailed planning.

“We know that better transport connections lead to more job opportunities for locals, reducing the barriers of travel time and costs.

The future Bruce Highway Western Alternative project has support from the State and Federal governments to create a new 60-kilometre link.

Transport Minister, Mark Bailey, said the project is a significant investment in the future of the region.

“With growing population pressures across the Moreton Bay region, an alternative road to the west of the Bruce Highway will boost the capacity of the transport network, reduce congestion and future proof the Moreton Bay lifestyle.

“Community consultation is an important part of major projects like this to ensure we are delivering the best outcome for residents.”
