Queensland rugby league star Reuben Cotter and his partner, Mackenzie Falco, have announced the birth of baby daughter, Sunny, three days after Reuben helped the Maroons win last week’s State of Origin opener.
The couple shared photos of Sunny on Instagram, where Maroons and North Queensland Cowboys stars congratulated the couple.
Ms Falco said the couple had wondered if the baby would be born before Mr Cotter played his first Origin game.
“Reuben was so nervous. He was at the birth, and then so glad he made it for State of Origin, both memorable occasions.
“We had no idea we were having a girl. Reuben always wanted a girl and he’s very smitten. There were definitely tears of joy.”
The couple said they’d been running on adrenaline since Sunny was born on Saturday at Mater Mothers’ Private Hospital Townsville.
Midwifery Unit Manager Rebekah Barrie said it had been an incredibly special time for Sunny and her parents.
“Dad’s footy dream came true, and he was back in time to welcome his daughter into the world. That’s a win all round.”
Cotter admitted last week he was nervous about possibly missing the birth after being selected to play for Queensland in Origin One.
He made a strong debut, finishing with 119 metres run and 51 tackles.
Cotter played for the Mackay Cutters before joining the Cowboys in 2019.
