Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes has cancelled shows in Mackay and Daydream Island this week because he’s tested positive to COVID.

His Facebook page has announced he’s “grounded at home” after two positive tests, and he’s now in isolation.

“Believe me, If I wasn’t contagious and could get out of bed, I’d be there singing to you,” Mr Barnes said.

“I know where I’d rather be. Sincere apologies to everyone who’s been inconvenienced by this. I know you’ve all travelled and planned your holidays around it.

The Mackay show has been postponed to August 27. The Stranded in the Whitsundays show on Daydream Island will go ahead on Thursday without Mr Barnes, with the Black Sorrows and Diesel stepping in alongside Darryl Braithwaite and Richard Clapton.

Mr Barnes was lead singer of Cold Chisel, and now tours extensively with his solo show. He’s also a successful author, with two memoirs and a collection of short stories.
