Murder charge over Qld teen stabbing death

A teenage boy is dead and another has been charged with murder after an altercation on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested after emergency services were called to reports of a street fight involving a 16-year-old outside a home at Buddina about 11.20pm on Thursday.
They arrived to find the family of the younger boy and other members of the public performing CPR for an alleged stab wound to the torso, but attempts to save him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.
The pair knew each other, and police believe there had been contact on social media prior to the fight.
“This is a tragic circumstance for the family, for the people who responded and for everyone involved,” Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Hurst said on Friday.
“I do thank the members of the public who came forward, it was really very brave of them … to step in and provide that assistance, not knowing what the circumstances were on the street.”
The boy arrested over the alleged stabbing remained at the scene and was co-operative with police.
He was charged with one count of murder on Friday morning and appeared before the Maroochydore Childrens Court.
Officers have asked any witnesses to the fight or people with CCTV footage in the area to contact them.
