Storm prop to fight Qld assault charge

Melbourne NRL prop Tui Kamikamica will fight allegations he allegedly assaulted a woman outside a Brisbane hotel, a court has been told.
Police will allege the 27-year-old, who has been stood down by his NRL club, assaulted a 30-year-old woman in Fortitude Valley in November.
Melbourne-based Kamikamica failed to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday with a warrant was issued and placed on file to ensure his appearance at his next court date.
Lawyer Bernie Balmer for Kamikamica indicated the Victorian-based footballer would plead not guilty.
The front row forward has been stood down by the Storm until the charge has been finalised and Mr Balmer asked for the change to be heard as soon as possible.
“As the NRL has stood him down, there is some urgency in respect to this,” Mr Balmer told the court.
“We would like to get a hearing as soon as we possibly can.
“In the meantime, we would like to make submissions to the prosecution to look at the CCTV footage to determine whether a properly instructed judge or magistrate would find him guilty – they might form an opinion. “
A case conferencing hearing was brought forward to February 9 with the warrant to be executed if Kamikamica fails to appear.
Kamikamica has played 55 NRL games and represented Fiji 12 times.
