NSW man dies after Gold Coast assault

A NSW man who was critically injured when he struck his head on the pavement after an assault in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast has died in hospital.

The victim was punched by a man known to him as the pair walked together around 4am on December 19. 

The 39-year-old NSW man was critically injured when he struck his head on the concrete pavement as he fell after the assault. 

A 26-year-old man is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday on upgraded charges of unlawful striking causing death.
