Five reasons so many people moved to Queensland during COVID
Emma Vuletic |

Queensland became a compelling destination for Australians searching for a better lifestyle during the COVID-19 pandemic – and its popularity continues to soar. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the state saw a 0.9% population increase in the year ending June 2021 – the most of any Australian state. Why?

Lifestyle
Cheaper housing, job opportunities and a warmer climate. Tick. No wonder net internal migration to the state is at its highest in 20 years.
No lockdowns
Without the harsh lockdowns other states have had to endure, Queensland feels free and easy. In the year ending March 2021, 20,300 residents leaving Melbourne (for other states) chose Queensland.
Remote
With nearly two thirds of Australians working from home in June 2021, it’s even easier to relocate to Queensland than ever before.
Brisbane
Brisbane is an appealing location for interstate folk who enjoy their cosmopolitan comforts. According to ABS, in the March 2021 quarter Brisbane gained the most people of any Australian city through net internal migration (+3,300).
Coastal appeal
Additionally, many people are moving from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, areas that have increasing growth and resources as well as fantastic beaches.
