Too hot to play outside? Give the kiddos a cool dose of culture at one of Brisbane’s many galleries that appeal to mini Monets.

Queensland Art Gallery

Every Tuesday the Queensland Art Gallery hosts Toddler Tuesdays for kids aged 18 months to four years. The gallery also has a permanent series of small display cards encouraging older kids to get in touch with their inner Picasso.

Ipswich Art Gallery 

It all started here. Ipswich Art Gallery was the first museum in Australia to have a dedicated gallery space for children. Crafty activities, interactive spaces and opportunities to create art, check. 

Gallery of Modern Art

GOMA has a strong emphasis on encouraging children’s artistic involvement. Exhibit A: the in-house Children’s Art Centre is all about hands-on fun.

Phoenix Sculpture Garden

A swift one-hour drive from Brisbane CBD in Mt Glorious, this elevated rainforest sculpture garden gives little ones plenty of room to roam. 

Abbey Museum 

This small rural museum is chock full of artifacts spanning over 500,000 years of human history. During school holidays the museum offers a range of free programs.
