Robbie embraces emotional swings of Wuthering Heights

Margot Robbie says her character cries “in every single scene” in Wuthering Heights but she loved the challenge.
The 35-year-old Australian actor stars alongside fellow Aussie Jacob Elordi in the new romantic drama film, which is loosely inspired by Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel of the same name, and Robbie admits she relished the movie’s emotional “swings”.
Asked if the romantic scenes demanded different preparation, Robbie told People it was “no different to all the other scenes that we do”.
“The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us,” she said.
“My character essentially cries in every single scene, but no, it was a joy. I loved playing a character who kind of swings from one wild emotion to the other in an instant.”

The new movie is written and directed by Emerald Fennell, and the 40-year-old filmmaker stressed that “safety and trust and love” were uppermost in her mind when she helmed the sex scenes.
“It’s always just about making sure everyone feels super comfortable and we all are, really. We trust each other and so we try to kind of make it funny and laugh everything off,” said Fennell, who directed Jacob in 2023’s Saltburn.
“But love scenes are just the same as any other scene, really. And so we just approach it from an emotional point of view.”
Fennell relished the experience of working with Robbie.
“Do you know what? She’s an inspiration. She’s an extraordinary woman,” she said.
“She’s a mother, she’s a producer, she’s an unbelievably talented actress and she also always has time to be generous to the people around her. And so she’s the best.”

Robbie previously starred alongside Colin Farrell in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, the 2025 romantic fantasy film, and Farrell loved the experience of working with the acclaimed actor, who hails from Queensland.
“You hear things through the years, ’cause as you know yourself, it’s a fairly small industry. So I met people through the years that worked with Margot … and they all, (men and women), said how extraordinary she was,” he explained during a joint appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“Not just it’s obvious that she’s an incredible actress, but how kind and fun and ‘one of the team’ she is. Which is always a turn-on for me. … Straight up!”
Farrell found working with Robbie to be “really easy” and she was similarly complimentary of her co-star.
“I also have always heard things about Colin,” she said.
“Everyone talks about what a great guy he is – obviously I know he’s talented and all that…”
