Blanchett, Luhrmann add to gongs with even more AACTAs

Director James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has taken out best film at the international Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

But Australians Cate Blanchett and director Baz Luhrmann also added to their collection of gongs with the international awards announced Friday.

The AACTAs are an Australian equivalent of the Oscars, with the awards night for the local industry held in December 2022.

Cate Blanchett won her third International AACTA for best lead actress in Film for her performance in Tár.

Baz Luhrmann took out Best Direction and US star Austin Butler won best lead actor for their work on the biopic Elvis.

Elvis has already won 11 awards at the AACTAs held on the Gold Coast last year.

Tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin had three wins with best supporting actor for Brendan Gleeson, best supporting actress for Kerry Condon, and best screenplay for Martin McDonagh.

Mystery Road: Origin and White Lotus: Sicily also won gongs for the small screen.
