Queensland’s Scooby-Doo moment: Time to unmask!

By The Queenslander staff

Queenslanders can throw off the masks indoors from 6pm Friday after two months of restrictions.

Here’s what you need to know.

The Queensland Government has confirmed the following ahead of the weekend:

  • Masks will no longer be required indoors, except in healthcare settings, residential aged care, disability accommodation, prisons, public transport, airports and on planes
  • Masks will no longer be required in schools, including for staff, students and visitors.
  • Masks still recommended whenever you can’t social distance.
  • No limit on the number of visitors you can have in your home at one time.
  • Venues and events will no longer have density limits.

Masks will still be required on public transport, at airports, on planes.

They will also be mandatory when visiting Queensland hospitals, prisons, disability and aged care facilities.

The Government says vulnerable members of the community are encouraged to continue wearing a mask if they choose to do so.

As part of changes, density limits will be scrapped from 6pm one if they want to, with no restrictions on the number of people at weddings, funerals or in homes.

Food courts, hairdressers, gyms, private venue hire and universities will also no longer be subject to restrictions.

Bans on visitors to schools, school excursions and assemblies will also be lifted.

Businesses that only allow fully vaccinated people to enter will need to continue to collect contact information and proof of vaccination via the check-in app.
