Six people have been rescued from a luxury yacht stranded in international waters just north of Darwin.
They were sailing a 30 metre yacht from Darwin to Townsville in choppy conditions when they had troubles with the engine and became stranded close to Indonesia.
An inflatable boat was deployed from HMAS Hobart on Monday to rescue the crew and passengers, according to the Department of Defence.
They have been taken to Thursday Island.
The vessel, MV Vivierae II, described as “mega-yacht styling … within a manageable 30m” on its website, is currently at anchor and will be returned to harbour once weather conditions across northern Australia have calmed down.
