A man has been extradited and charged over the alleged fatal assault of another man.

NSW emergency services were called to William Street, Tweed Heads South, about 3.15am on November 24 following reports of an assault.

Officers arrived to find an unconscious man lying on the ground outside a home.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man but he died at the scene.

The man has since been identified as a 39-year-old Tweed Heads resident.

Police established a crime scene and launched a homicide investigation.

NSW detectives, assisted by Queensland Police, arrested a 48-year-old man in Kirra, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, on Saturday afternoon.

The man was extradited to NSW and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with assault causing death.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
