Jack Gramenz |
A prison officer who shot a shackled man as he ran from custody has been cleared of criminal charges over his death.
The officer, known as Officer A for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty as he faced a retrial in the NSW Supreme Court.
The jury returned verdicts of not guilty for murder and the alternative charge of manslaughter on Monday afternoon.
Dwayne Johnstone, 43, died after being shot outside Lismore Base Hospital as he escaped following his discharge on March 15, 2019.
He had been taken to the northern NSW hospital when he collapsed and began convulsing in the court cells after being remanded in custody earlier that day.
