A Queensland man has been extradited to Western Australia, charged over an alleged sexual assault that happened in Perth more than 30 years ago.
Police allege the 48-year-old man, who was 17 at the time, entered an Embleton property between 4am and 4.30am on April 17, 1992.
A 23-year-old woman sleeping inside was allegedly woken by the man who was armed with a knife.
It’s alleged he tied her up and sexually assaulted her a number of times.
He was arrested in Queensland on Wednesday and extradited to Perth yesterday.
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, along with aggravated burglary, deprivation of liberty and attempted sexual penetration of another person without consent.
The 48-year-old will appear before the Perth Children’s Court on Saturday.
Detective Inspector Darryl Cox said WA police remained committed to investigating the alleged attack.
“Advances in policing technology and forensics have enabled us to identify an alleged offender, track down their location and bring these matters before the courts,” he said.
