Qld truckie behind bars over fatal crash

A truck driver allegedly responsible for the death of a child 18 years ago will spend at least a week behind bars before reappearing in court.

Allan Michael Dyson, 59, was extradited from Queensland to NSW on Tuesday and placed into custody in Sydney.

It is alleged Dyson was driving the truck that killed a six-year-old boy, who was in the back seat of a station wagon, in a crash in the NSW Southern Highlands in 2004.

The car rolled 40 metres down the Hume Highway embankment, killing the boy.

The truck involved allegedly did not stop.

Dyson was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and three counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct.

His lawyer told Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday he would not be applying for bail at this stage, however anticipated an application next week.

The matter was adjourned until October 19.
